Description
These picturesque wonders were formed during the ice ages. Blown in from the glacial outwash plains to the west and south, the Palouse hills consist of more or less random humps and hollows. Mainly made of loess, or wind-blown silt, the steepest slopes, which may reach 50% slope, face the northeast. Some have estimated that, at todays wind speed, it would take at least 25,000 years to create an eighty foot hill of loess. Who knows how long it took to create the Palouse. This area makes for wonderful photography regardless.
