Just some of the views you see as you head up to the Mauna Kea Observatory. Mauna Kea is one of three volcanoes in Hawaii that accumulate snow. Mythologically, the snow goddess Poliahu is in constant dispute with the goddess of fire (lava) and battle for prominence on these high summits of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Haleakala.
