There are only a handful of black sand beaches on the Big Island. Kehena happened to be the one that was only 15 minutes away from where we stayed. Which meant more sleep for me! It�s a nude optional beach. Hard to get down to, having to scramble down some steep rocks, especially in darkness and in the rain, but it was well worth it! The twilight rains slip through and the sun cast its light through the sky. I�m glad I stayed for the �show�. Also, �Adam and Eve� showed up (they didn�t actually come together here), striped down and they each went for a morning swim. Kehena is wildly known for its weekend hippy drum circles but also for is strong spiritual energy that�s encapsulated in this cove. There is a meditative energy as the waves crash in, you sit on the sticky sand and let the waves break through you. Beautiful way to star the day I think.
